Safariblock from FSB Software is a new anonymous surfing tool that combines a Safari-style toolbar with a block list of commonly-installed malicious websites. It works similarly to the Safari blocker utility but is not supported on Mac OS X (as of the time of this writing). Safariblock installs unobtrusive icons on your Mac desktop that let you filter out sites you don't want to visit by clicking on a small icon. The website blocker utility will force the URL selected to open in Safari, preventing it from opening in other web browsers or pop-up advertisements. Safari Block is an extremely powerful tool that requires no upfront cost and is also completely free to download. Safari Block can be used for browsing any web site across multiple platforms, as it filters out different web pages and prevents them from loading automatically and in full.
Safariblock does not have any type of parental control or content blocking capabilities, and is still primarily a web surfing tool. However, you can use the same filtering technology Safariblock has in conjunction with its free software that would prevent malicious adware and spyware programs from installing on your computer. Safariblock can easily block unwanted pop-ups ads, trackers and Trojans, as well as allow you to view sites that are not on your approved list. While there are many pop-ups you may wish to block, Safariblock provides the unobtrusive solution while still allowing you to browse the internet safely.
For users that are unfamiliar with the program, Safariblock is quite easy to install and remove. Upon installation, all you'll need to do is launch Safariblock, click "scan" to generate a list of websites that are blocking you from getting to them, and then click "remove" to complete the uninstallation. It's extremely quick and easy to get this free software! Although, like most freeware programs, Safariblock has limited functionality compared to other similar programs, it's still a great way to prevent the dangers online. As always, keep in mind that it's ultimately up to you to decide whether or not you want to install any software, but at least remember that no software is infallible!
